Top Scottish Contemporary Artists Exhibit in Aberdeen

An exhibition hosting a selection of art by top Scottish contemporary artists whose works are held in some of the world's greatest collections arrives in Aberdeen next week. The exhibition - High White Light - is being arranged to raise funds for The Mary Salmond Trust and is sponsored by Counselling and Family Mediation. The Mary Salmond Trust was set up in 2007 by Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister, in memory of his mother and the First Minister will open the private view.

The trust provides financial assistance for young people and organisation in north-east Scotland for arts, health, welfare and educational projects. Mr Salmond said, “I am delighted to support this fundraising event and look forward to meeting the artists”.

The collection of paintings, original etchings, prints and other media illustrate modern culture, Scotland’s political and geographical landscape, its nuclear position in the world, the theatre of war across the globe, Scottish history, identity and morality and how we live in our current society.
Among the artists who are exhibiting are John Byrne, Calum Colvin and curator, Jane E Porter. Some of the artists have donated works to the trust.

Ms Porter, curator said, “We wanted to bring together cutting edge art by top Scottish artists into a non gallery environment and raise money for charity. We also wanted to offer Aberdeen something different and innovative, a new culture of art, making serious art accessible. I’d like to thank all the artist for exhibiting and all the people who have helped make this possible.”
